Today, I continue to describe my walk along the Leeds-Liverpool Canal that I wrote about yesterday. Where the milepost near the Fisherman's pub tells me that I have walked a mile since Saltaire.
Bingley Boozers
I attended grammar school in Bingley. So the pubs, bars, and restaurants are familiar resting places for me. But one excellent bar is quite new. So, looking forward to my second visit, I increased my pace to the centre of Bingley
A Corner of India
The Peacock Bar is conveniently located, across from Bingley railway station. And the guy who runs it is the epitome of good, friendly service. Though he was extremely busy this day. So I got less of the interesting chat than last time.
But, speaking of interesting, this slogan caught my eye:
In Pizza We Crust
I crust in very little else!
Riverside Walk
Across the main road, a quaint track leads me down to the River Aire. I hope most people would expect to find delight down a track like this. But I know the goodness that lies ahead. Though I enjoyed one unexpected goodie - riverside blackberries. So delicious that I forgot to photograph them!
Riverside Pub
The Brown Cow was a regular haunt in my teenage years and twenties. Much has changed over the years - not always for the better. But the riverside patio is a great recent addition.
Time For Home
As I set off for home, I reflected how nice Bingley is, these days. And promised myself to come back soon. Then I spotted an old, familiar path that I couldn't resist.
After all that walking (not to mention the ale) I needed some solid food. And nothing tastes better than the delicious pizza at the Market Square Tavern. Formerly the Ferrands Arms, this is another pub that has served me well for over 40 years.
Happy memories with good exercise.
